WestCAT gearing up for another BART strike

August 1, 2013, Pinole, CA -With the looming threat of a second BART strike at hand, WestCAT is gearing up and cleaning up its contingency plan from the previous 4 ½ day BART strike that took place in early July. With lessons learned, WestCAT has planned to add more transbay service into San Francisco, as well as two additional evening trips from Hercules to Martinez on its 30Z Martinez Link route. This will be for people trying to connect with County Connection, Tri-Delta Transit, and Capital Corridor. However, the JX service will not operate at all, but all of the JPX trips from Hercules/Pinole will go into San Francisco (stopping first on Kearny Street near the El Cerrito del Norte BART Station). The last trip out of San Francisco will be approximately 8:00 PM. The last 30Z will leave Hercules at 8:00 PM to Martinez. All of the local fixed routes will operate on a normal schedule, as well as the Express JR/JL routes. The J's serving the El Cerrito del Norte BART station will not actually stop within the station itself, but will instead make a stop on Kearny Street as was done previously during the last BART work stoppage. The WestCAT sales office is open from 7:30 AM-6:00 PM M-F. Passes are also available through the mail. Information regarding tickets sales is available at www.westcat.org.

As all of the Bay Area transit operators hold conference calls and meetings in preparation of another BART strike, WestCAT and its operator MV Transportation are holding their own meetings. WestCAT Spokeswoman, Yvonne Morrow commented "We want commuters to know that we are here for them and that we will do the best job that we can to assist them during this stressful time". If a strike should happen on Monday, staff will begin arriving early in the morning at key locations from Hercules to San Francisco to assist displaced commuters, provide directions or reassurances to those who might be unfamiliar with bus operations.

WestCAT will continue to place frequent updates to its strike contingency plan on the agency's official website http://www.westcat.org/bart.html for the duration of the BART work stoppage. Customers can also call WestCAT information at 510-724-7993. WestCAT will also post frequent alerts on it Twitter feeds as well @WestCATalert and @WCCTA. For access to all of the Bay Area transit contingency plans go online at alert.511.org or call 511 for more trip planning options and travel needs.
